A Celebration of Life for Mr. Jamil Malik Tatum, 29 of Huntsville, Alabama will be noon, Friday at United Pentecostal Jubilee House of Prayer with Bishop Cary Orr officiating. Inhumation will follow in Sterrs Cemetery. There will be no public viewing.
Jamil M. Tatum was born September 12, 1994 to Damita Acklin and Christoper Mayes. He departed this life on November 18, 2023 at Huntsville Hospital.
Jamil accepted Christ at an early age at Victory Christian Center under the leadership of the late Apostle Carter Videau. Jamil was known for his many athletic abilities. He was an All-Star pitcher and hind catcher for “The Athletics” at Cashin Wheeler Park. He also played football and basketball for Brookhaven Middle School.
Jamil was diagnosed as having a traumatic brain injury at the age of 13 when his heart stopped beating several times. He hasn’t been able to physically move since that time but his infectious smile lit up any room and he captured the hearts of anyone he came in contact with.
Jamil was preceded in death by: his great-grandmother, Lutitia Tatum; his great/aunt, Rosetta Harris and great-uncle, Fernando Tatum.
Jamil leaves to cherish fond memories: a Loving and Devoted Mother, Damita Acklin; his Father, Christopher Mayes; Bonus Dads, Frederick Acklin and Willie (Jasmine) Mitchell; Grandparents Barbara (Leroy) Tolbert, Lula Harris, Harold Stella) Fletcher and Theodis Acklin; Siblings, Benjamin and Quinnin (Shynese) Tatum and Trinity Mitchell; Janecha (Torren) Nobles and Lyric Mitchell; Shadee Morris, Ricky Miller, Shawn Hill, Vanessa Hudson, Hydiea Peterson, Taliayhia Swoopes, Arkeim Mitchell, Quinn Stover, Avarius Lewis, Bria Houston, Morgan Acklin, Katilyn Acklin, Frederick Acklin II, Tyler Milton and Brett Gurley; and a host of God Brothers and Sisters, Nieces, Nephews, Aunts,Uncles, Cousins and Friends.
