Funeral Service for Mr. Jerry Douglas Stewart, 78, of Athens and formerly of Decatur, Alabama will be 11:00AM Wednesday in Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edward Franklin officiating. Inhumation will follow in Decatur City Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Tuesday from noon until 5:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Jerry Douglas Stewart was born on October 29, 1945 in Decatur, AL to the late Frances Alma Brown Stewart and Nelson Stewart. Jerry passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at his residence in Athens Alabama.
Jerry accepted Christ at an early age and united with Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Trinity, Alabama. Jerry attended Lakeside High School. He was an extremely hard worker. He retired from the City of Decatur after many years of service. He approached his work with diligence and a commitment to excellence.
Jerry had a lifelong passion for fishing, which brought him immense joy and relaxation. His love for fishing was a way for him to connect with family and friends, sharing stories and creating lasting memories. Jerry was a devoted husband. He adored his wife, Billie Dean Stewart, and they shared many wonderful years together before her passing on October 18, 2022.
Jerry was preceded in death by; his wife, parents, his sister, Mildred Hartman; his brother, Nelson Peter Stewart Jr., two brothers-in-law Andrew Wilkerson and Thomas Carlisle; seven sisters-in law, Mary Jefferson, Annie Townsend, Grace Holden, Ester Wilkerson, Luella Stewart, Barbara Carlisle, and Ethel Swope.
Precious memories remain with; his family, Katrena Franklin, Arianna Franklin, Edward Bernard, Erskine Jr. ”Rudy”; brother-in-law, William Hartman, other relatives, loved ones, and friends.
