Graveside service for Mr. Jesse L. “Hobbie Joe” Jackson, 71 of Brooklyn , NY. and formerly of Decatur, AL  will be noon Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Calvary Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Dr. G. Lynne Herring, officiating and interment at Calvary Memorial Gardens.

Jesse L. “Hobbie Joe” Jackson was born to the late Foster and Jessie Mae Dillard on April 23, 1949 in Decatur, Alabama. He was called home on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 peacefully in the hospital in NY.

Jesse Jackson known to many as Hobbie Joe, Papa J and the Mayor graduated from Lakeside High School Decatur, AL where he played football and met his high school sweetheart and best friend, Lillian M. Jackson.  Later they married and relocated to Brooklyn, New York where they had three handsome sons.

He served our great country by joining the United States Army in the 1970’s.  After his service he began his career at Snapple and retired after 20 years. Post-retirement he began working as a doorman at The Luxury Apartments of Premier House and retired a second time after 21 years in 2019.

Jesse was known for his dapper wardrobe and delicious cooking especially his finger licking good barbecue. He was a family man and family gatherings brought him so much joy and happiness. His favorite pass time was watching sports while  laying in his room. He instilled into his family to always pray and put God first.  Jesse displayed to all how a man is supposed to love and cherish his family, be a provider, supporter and the backbone.  Jesse was always there when you needed him to provide advice and or a helping hand.  Jesse Jackson was an AMAZING, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend. He was loved and respected by so many, “JOB WELL DONE.”

Jesse was predeceased by: his loving wife, Lillian M. Jackson; parents, Mr. Foster and Mrs. Jessie Mae Dillard and his brothers, Roy Gain and Frank Dillard.

He leaves to cherish in his legacy: his three sons, Darius (Myrtle) Jackson, Ronwick Jackson both of Brooklyn, New York and Sean Ayers of Decatur, Alabama; grandchildren, La-Toya Jackson, Zarie Hutchinson, Jawuan Jackson, Dion Johnson, Myisha Odom, Paris Hindman, Shawn Hindman, Jalen Baker and Sean Ayers Jr; great grandchildren, Jahki Coates, Sariah Simon, Jeremiah Johnson and Kelvin Michael King Jr; siblings, Camilla Ward, Decatur, Alabama, Margaret (Kenneth Ray) Tevis, Dayton, Ohio, Peggy Dillard, Dayton, Ohio, Frances (Najurl) Johnson, Dayton, Ohio, Foster Dillard Jr., Athens, Alabama, Gary Dillard, Dayton, Ohio, Johnny Dillard, Jacksonville, Florida, Annette Dillard, Decatur, Alabama, Wanda (Timothy) Horton, Athens, Alabama and Cynthia Dillard, Dayton, Ohio and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins,other relatives, family best friend, Alvin Brown and a special daughter Pamela Seldon.
