Joe Young Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Joe Young, 72 of Courtland, Alabama will be Noon, Friday at Jackson Chapel C.M.E. Church with David Young officiating and burial in Rocky Hill Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Thursday from 1:00PM until 5:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home. 

Joe Young, Sr. was born June 30, 1950  in Courtland, Alabama to the late Johnny James Young Sr. and Ellen Young. He departed this life on April 21, 2023 at his residence in Courtland, Alabama.

Joe confessed his life to Christ at an early age. He was a member of Jackson Chapel C.M.E. Church in Courtland, AL, where he sang in the senior choir and the male chorus until his health failed. Joe Young Sr. was also a member of the old gospel group “The Gospel Tones” until joining “The Spiritual Harmoneers”.  Brother Young enjoyed making repairs and especially fixing cars and trucks.

He was preceded in death by: his parents Johnny James and Ellen Young; wife, Charlette Ann Young; one daughter, Ke-Ke Clay,; one son, Joe Young Jr; one grandson,  Jaquorius Johnson; five brothers, Thomas, Johnny James Jr., Carl, Harold and Fred Sr.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory four loving children: Cassandra Young of Courtland AL; Gary Johnson (Andrea) of Russelville AL; Angela Clay (Reginal) of Hillsboro AL; and Audrey Young of Courtland AL; One Aunt Kate Young of Hillsboro AL; three sisters, Trullie Watkins of Decatur AL, Cassis Battle of Huntsville AL, Celestin Gholston (James) of Decatur AL; two brothers, Roy Young Sr. (Minita) of Hillsboro AL and Rodney Young (Donna) of Decatur AL; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Orr of Hillsboro AL, Katie Mason of Courtland AL. Geraldine Johnson of Nashville TN, Claudia Young of Courtland AL, Frances A. Young of Hillsboro AL and Shelia Sawyer of Cleveland OH; grandchildren, Chasity Bolding (Nathan); Brittany Young, special grand-daughter Saroyia Young, Zedrick Johnson, Ashontae Gloudoua (Israel), Roy Young Jr. (Jeneal). Jacobey “Scooby” Henderson, A ‘Jada Porter, Tiara Williams, Samara Johnson, McKenzie Young, Jaylan Smith, Reginald Clay Jr; 18 great grandchildre; and a host of nieces and nephews, including two devoted nieces; Ann Young Abernathy and Mary Young both of Courtland AL.
