A Celebration of Life for Mr. Joel Adrian Lanier, 56 of Decatur will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Macedonia C.P. Church in America with Dr. G. Lynne Herring officiating. Inhumation will follow in Calvary Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Joel Adrian Lanier was born on April 27, 1967 in Decatur, Alabama to Pauline Turner Lanier and the late Frank Ferry Lanier. He departed this life peacefully on October 14, 2023 at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.
Joel accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Macedonia CP Church in America.
He was educated in Decatur City School System and was a graduate of Austin High School Class of 1985 where he was a member of the marching band.
Joel was employed at Decatur City School system in the maintenance department for 20 years and was currently a cook for Taco Bell for over 10 years.
Joel was a fun-loving person who could put a smile on everyone’s face. He was known for his signature smile that would lite up any room. He also was a devoted fan that loved the Alabama Crimson Tide football, Roll Tide!
He was preceded in death by: his father, Frank Ferry Lanier; five aunts, Hattie Easley, Pearline “Pop” Turner, Elnora Griffin, Georgette McDaniel and Charcey Sutherlin; four uncles, Julius Turner, Gene Lanier, George Turner, Jr. and Frank Dillard.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Shanice N Harris and Joel Adrian Lanier, Jr both of Decatur Alabama; granddaughter, Noelle F. Lanier of Oklahoma; his loving mother, Pauline Lanier; sister, Angela Lanier; brother, Frank Stacy Lanier all of Decatur, a special friend, Latoya Minor of Huntsville Alabama; three aunts, Camilla Ward, Cormelia Ann Turner both of Decatur and Betty Jo Cain of Huntsville and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
