Funeral for John T. “ Junebug” Varner, Jr., 64 of Decatur, Alabama will be noon Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Flint Hill M.B. Church in Verbena, Alabama with the Reverend Clarence Varner officiating and inhumation in Mary Williams Community Cemetery. The body will lie in repose two hours prior to service. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 pm till 6:00 pm at Reynolds Funeral Home.
John was born on April 25, 1957 in Greenville, Mississippi to the late John T. and Pearlie Jones Varner. He departed this life on June 27, 2021 at the Parkway Campus of Decatur Morgan Hospital in Decatur, Alabama.
John was married to Mary Potts for 20 years and to this union four children were born.
John accepted Christ at an early age and joined Kindling Star M.B. Church in Greenville, MS. He later united with Hills Chapel C.P. Church in America in Decatur, Alabama.
“Junebug” attended Hillcrest High School in Dalzell, SC and was a 1975 graduate. He enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1975 and then joined the U.S. Army in 1976 where he earned a nursing degree. He was a retiree of the U.S. Army with 22 years of dedicated and faithful service to his country. John cherished his military career and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Kenyatta Mitcheam.
He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife of 13 years, Beverly Morrow Varner of Decatur; children, Courtney (Alana) Varner of Virginia, Tiffany Varner, Shaun Varner, Ryan Varner all of San Antonio, TX, Maggie Ludovici of Cambridge, OH, Fred (Tiyanna) Morrow, Lashaundra McCoy and Patrick Hereford all of Decatur; 20 grandchildren; one great0grandchild; siblings, Diane(Joe) Varner Cole of Deltona, FL, Charles (Viola) Varner of Warner Robbins, GA, Sharon Varner and Patricia Varner both of Savannah, GA, Andre (Tracy) Varner of Montgomery; sister-in-law, Toni Mitcheam of Decatur; uncle, Clarence (Nettie) Varner of Verbena; aunts, Diane Young of Greenville, MS, and Brenetta Jones of Chicago, IL; special cousin, Eddie Bryant; dear friends, Davey (Brenda) Parker, Alphonso Tucker, Arthur Hillard and Keith Jones and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends
