Graveside Service for Mr. Johnny James Young Jr., 74 of Hillsboro, Alabama will be noon Saturday at Calvary Memorial Gardens with the Reverend David Young officiating. Public viewing will be Friday from noon-5 at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Minister Johnny James Young Jr. known to most as “Pam” was born April 22, 1946 in Lawrence County, AL to the late Johnnie James Young Sr. and the late Ellen Orr-Young of Courtland, AL. He departed this life on September 23, 2020 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Johnny attended Central High School in Courtland, AL. He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Decatur, AL as a weaver for 30 plus years until retirement.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Jackson Chapel CME Church in Courtland, AL where he ministered and taught mid-day Bible study. Johnny was ordained as a minister of the Gospel in June of 1991, he received his Certificate of Ministry in March of 2001, and received his Bachelor of Theology in January of 2002.
Johnny had a giving heart and donated faithfully to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital. He was truly a joy to be around, and his personality, strength, and the life he lived exemplified the God in him. He was known for leaving you with an encouraging word and/or scripture, with a smile to follow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving daughter, Antonia “Toni”Francine Young-Polk; four brothers, Fred Young, Thomas Young, Harold Young, and Carl Young.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Mrs. Frances Ann Sykes-Young of Hillsboro, AL; daughter, Felicia Key of Decatur, AL; three brothers; Joe (Charlotte) Young of Courtland, AL, Roy Young of Hillsboro, AL, and Rodney (Donna) Young of Decatur; AL; three sisters, Trullie Watkins and Sally (James) Gholston both of Decatur, AL, and Cassie Battle of Huntsville, AL; two sisters-in-law, Alice Young of Hillsboro, AL, and Jeanette Young of Decatur, AL; two brothers-in-law, Tommy Sykes Jr. and Lawrence Bell both of Decatur, AL; one aunt, Kate Young of Courtland, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
