Reynolds Funeral Home announces with deepest sympathy the passing of Mrs. Katherine G. Garth 88 of Decatur, AL. Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021, 12:00 Noon, at Calvary Memorial Gardens, with the Reverend Jerry Baker, officiating. Public viewing will be Wednesday, 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Katherine Gill Garth was born July 6, 1932, to the late Ivory Gill and Mattie McDonald Gill in Morgan County, Alabama. She departed this life on January 29, 2021 in Decatur, AL.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to George "G.W". Garth who was the love of her life.
She was converted at an early age and joined St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church until her health failed. She was a dedicated member and loyal to the works of the Mother’s Board, the senior choir, the Missionary Society where she held the office of treasurer for many years. She served her Lord and her people well. She loved entertaining others and making them laugh. Her influence will always live in in the hearts of those who loved her. Life is a gift from God and mama was God’s gift to us.
She attended Morgan County Training School. She worked in the medical field and performed domestic work until she retired.
Mother Garth was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Dorothy Mae Gilbert and Hazel Lee McDaniel; one brother, Lafayette Gill.
Mother Garth leaves to cherish her precious memory: one daughter, Gwendolyn Thomas; three sons, Curtis Fletcher, Lester Fletcher, all of Decatur and Tommy Fletcher (Jackie) of Rex, GA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Joyce Gill of Decatur; two special god-daughters; Sandy Fanning of Anderson, IN and Suraya Cannon of Trinity, AL; a special cousin, Lorene Roberts of Decatur; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
