Funeral Service for Mr. Kenjii Chatman,47, of Decatur, AL will be noon Tuesday January 27, 2026, at Macedonia C.P. Church in America with Bishop Cary Orr officiating. Inhumation will follow in Decatur City Cemetery. Mr. Chatman will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Monday January 26, 2026 from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home. Mr. Chatman transitioned January 20, 2026, at the Decatur Campus of Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Kenjii Tavares Chatman was born April 11, 1978, in Fort Ord, California to Anita Patterson and the late Benjamin Chatman, Jr.. Tavares departed this life on January 20, 2026,in Decatur, Alabama. Tavares graduated from Hartselle High School in 1996., where he was a star athlete in football. At an early age, Tavares joined Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Tavares was employed at Sanderson Farms for 15 years as a supervisor. Tavares was a strong, devoted son, to his mother and a strong, loving protective father to his three children. Tavares loved cars, and motorcycles. Saturday afternoons were filled with emotions watching his favorite football team the Auburn Tigers “War Eagle!”. Earning his nickname in high school, “T-Train” his teammates would quote “You can try to push a train but can’t stop one” referring to his talent. Family and friends, were his biggest motivators because of the compassion he gave and the love they return
back to him. He is preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Chatman Jr.; grandmother, Ophelia Orr Patterson; brother, Spencer O’Neal Johnson; and sister, Tanya Nakia Chatman. Tavares leaves his memories to be remembered by his parents Anita Patterson Johnson and David Johnson; three beloved children, Katelyn Chatman, Nathan Chatman, and Tyreke Chatman; a cherished bonus daughter, Kaelyn Watson; three sisters, Syreta Orr, Lasha Johnson, and Brittney Johnson. Precious nieces and nephew, Kelan Staten, Nathan Jay Fennell, and Nallah Chatman; two wonderful nephews, Kwashawn Staten and Aiden Miller, both of Decatur, Alabama; courageous nieces and nephews, Kwashawn Staten, Nivea Chatman, Taniya Chatman, Amarie Chatman, and Aiden Miller; precious great-nieces and nephews, Kelan Staten, Nahlani-Jaye Fenell, Nailah Chatman, Laiken Thompson and Nova Anthony; two aunts, Joyce Chatman and Aretha Davis,
both of Huntsville, Alabama; four uncles, Gary Chatman of Florida, William Winton of Huntsville, Alabama, Lincoln Johnson, and Curtis Johnson both of Decatur, Alabama. Tavares leaves behind a large circle of friends and loved ones, whose friendships spanned all aspects of life. Tavares was a loyal soul who touched many lives and who was honored by all who knew him.
