A Celebration of Life for Mr. LC Sears 99 of Decatur, AL will be held at noon next Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Moulton Heights M.B. Church with the Reverend Tracy Seltzer officiating. Inhumation will follow in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. Public viewing will be Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.
LC SEARS was born March 12, 1926, in Hillsboro, Alabama, to the late Joseph and Ada Henderson Sears. He transitioned
peacefully at his home on September 5, 2025.
In 1945, LC caught a train to Pontiac, MI to work for General Motors. While employed at General Motors, LC was called
to be enlisted in the US Army for two years. LC served as a World War II veteran and received a Victory Medal when he was discharged from the service in 1947. LC went back to work in Detroit and was employed at Chrysler and later employed at
Ford Motor as an Operational Technician for 25 years.
In 1968, LC married the love of his life Doris Jean Straughter Sears. After retirement in 2000, LC decided to come back to his roots, Decatur, Alabama. Shortly after he returned home, his lovely wife, Doris Jean Straughter Sears, passed away suddenly.
At an early age, he gave his life to Christ and joined Ebenezer Church in Hillsboro, Alabama. When he moved to Detroit, he joined St. Joseph Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. When LC returned home back to Alabama, LC united with Moulton Heights Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Tracy Seltzer where he was a dedicated, faithful, and the eldest member of the church.
LC enjoyed cooking, fishing, playing dominoes, and watching NBA basketball. He loved meeting new people and visiting with his family
LC was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Straughter Sears; parents, Joseph and Ada Henderson Sears; daughter, Shirley Cottingham; grandson;Joseph Gadson; brothers, Eddie Sears, Sr., Joe Henry Sears, Joe Nathan Sears, and Willie Sears; and sisters, Willie Mae Sears Stover (Leonard) and Deloise Horton.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his one sister, Geneva Sears Martin (Johnnie); one brother, Charles Sears (Shirley); son, Larry (Evette) Jones of Detroit, MI; two daughters, Linda Jean Mosely (Terrence) Green of Decatur, AL, and Stephanie Straughter of Waterford, MI; eight granddaughters, Veronica Thornton, Tiffany Jones, Christian Jones, Lawanda Gadson Copeland, LaTonya Dempsey, Paulia Dempsey, Staci Dempsey and Marjorie Dempsey; a grandson Larry Jones, Jr.;eight great-grandchildren; special friends, Joe Hill, Sr., and Yolanda “Yo” McCall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
