A Celebration of Life for Mr. Larry D. McDaniel, 68 of Decatur, Alabama will be noon Monday at Sterrs Cemetery with Dr. Sylvester Truss officiating.  Public viewing will be Sunday from 1-5 at Reynolds Funeral Home.

Larry Darnell McDaniel, the only child of Vernell “Nell” McDaniel, was born on January 20, 1952 in Decatur, Alabama. He transitioned from his childhood home to the Heavenly home on October 22, 2020 in Decatur, Alabama.

He was baptized at an early age at Westside Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member. Larry sang in the Male Chorus and the Mass Choir.

He was educated in the Decatur Public School System, first attending Lakeside High School and during the desegregation era he was transferred to Austin High School where he earned his high school diploma in 1970. In May 1972, Larry enlisted in the United States Arms and served with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was honorably discharged in May 1975. He was a dedicated and faithful employee of 3M Corporation and  retired with 25 years of service.

In 1996, Larry married the love of his life, Katherine “Rina” Elliott. They shared a loving relationship for 22 years. His beloved “Miss Rina” passed away in 2018. Also preceding him in death were: his mother, Vernell McDaniel, his grandmother, Mary Ella McDaniel and uncle, Otis McDaniel.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory: his cousin and caregiver, Patricia Nance Campbell; an aunt, Vivian McDaniel; a very special childhood friend and caregiver, Donald S. Warren and his wife, Marilyn R Warren; sister, Cora Dean Tucker; and other relatives and friends.
