Larry O’Neal Woods

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Larry O’Neal Woods, 62, of Decatur, Alabama will be noon Monday, December 5, 2022 at Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church with the Reverend Robert Hereford eulogizing and the Reverend Vicki Mayberry officiating. Inhumation will follow in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Sunday from 1:00PM until 5:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home. 

Larry O’neal Woods was born on May 28, 1960 to Florine Woods and Duke Reynolds in Russellville, Alabama. He entered into eternal rest on November 27, 2022 at his home in Decatur, Alabama.

Larry graduated from Russellville High School and joined the Alabama National Guard in 1980. Afterwards he enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1983 and retired after 25 years of excellent and distinguished service to his country.

He accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and united with Wayman Chapel AME Church while under the leadership of the Reverend Robert B. Hereford, Sr.

Larry was a loving and caring person who really enjoyed life. He never met a stranger that did not  become his friend. He loved watching TV and most especially Alabama Football.  One of his favorite saying was “Roll-Tide”. Some of his favorite things to do were: listening to his music, spending time with his friends and family that he loved!

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Florine Woods and  Duke Reynolds; two brothers, Willie James “Pete” Woods and Richard “Buddy” Woods; two sisters-in-law,  Eurleen Garrett and Shelia Garrett; two brothers-in-law, Carl Phillips and Phillip Brown; two great-grandchildren, Avaya Sky Brown and Raedyn Jackson; and a special niece, Tammy Phillips. 

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife: Annie Garrett Woods of Decatur, AL; children, Larry O. Woods Jr. (Marquita) of Savannah, GA., Kimberly Woods of Decatur, AL., Tameka Garrett of Huntsville, AL., Anthony Garrett and Erica Garrett, both of Decatur, AL.; siblings: two brothers, Dan Woods of Bessemer, AL., Calvin Woods (Henrietta) of Russellville, AL; two sisters:Stella “Louise” Phillips of Florence, AL and Arelean Nance of Atlanta, GA. sisters-in-law: Patricia Gail Williams (Clifford) of Huntsville, AL, Sherrie Brown, Teresa Bolden (John)and Joshua Garrett all of Decatur, AL; brother-in-law, Rodney Garrett (Debra)  of Decatur, AL; grandchildren,  Jonquez Brown, Larri Brown, Breah Jackson, A’mya Woods, Avayah Garrett, Jamarri Woods, Trevon Woods, Brooklyn Woods, Geonna Spangler, Akasha Woods and Melanie Joy; great grandchildren, Alaya, Harmony and Kadence; three special friends, Steven and Denise Watkins of Findlay, OH and Carolyn Groce of Huntsville, AL and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other close relatives and dear friends.
