To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:  A time to be born and a time to die….

Most people look at death as something dark and gloomy without one redeeming quality; but, the death of a good, kind-hearted Christian is moving out of this cold, friendless, dark world into eternal daylight.  That is what Lawanna Nicole Phillips has done.  On November 1, 2023, God, in his infinite wisdom summoned His death angel to call Lawanna home and she obediently answered the call.

Lawanna’s season and time was defined by God when she entered this world on January 28, 1980, born to Tracey and Alvin Mosley, Gina Watkins and the late Blakely Jones Her season ended on November 1, 2023, the day she left with the angels.

Lawanna was raised in a loving, God-fearing home. She was the epitome of what a big sister should be to Andrea, Alvin and Brandon.

At an early age, Lawanna recognized the importance of having a relationship with Jesus, the Christ so she accepted Him as her “Savior” and became a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.  Lawanna served faithfully at Shiloh in whatever ministry she could.  She was not stingy with her love for the church, her fellow church members and people.

Lawanna received her formal education in the Decatur City Schools, graduating from Austin High School in 1998 and furthered her education at Calhoun Community College.  She was employed as a Head Teller at Family Security Credit Union.

Lawanna was a unique and talented person.  She was gifted to be an event decorator/coordinator and was talented and fabulous at the job.   She was loved and respected by everyone that met her. Her personality was one that could make dark skies suddenly seem bright.   She was kind, loving and unselfish.  She loved and was devoted to her family.

She was united in holy matrimony to her best friend and high school sweetheart, Steve Phillps, who she adored and loved dearly.  To this union three children were born, Tyus, Kenslie and Londyn Phillips.

Those that preceded her in death are her father, grandparents; A.G. and Mary Moseley, Marvin Jones, Elnater and Bennie Malone, Naomi Sales; a father-in-law, Percy Phillips.
