Graveside Service for Mr. Lorenzo Johnson Sr., 67 of Decatur, AL will be held on Sunday, 1:30 pm at Sterrs Cemetery with the Bishop Johnathon Pulliam officiating. Public viewing will be held on Saturday, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Lorenzo Johnson, Sr. who was better known as "Lo" was born to the late Magnolia Cooper Johnson and the late Eli Rhodes on May 24, 1954 in Decatur,, AL. In addition to this parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Earl Johnson, Sr.; five brothers, Earl Johnson, J., Woodrow Johnson, Sr., Otis Rhodes, Melvin Rhodes, Samuel Rhodes; six sisters, Minnie Eva McGee, Tinnie Mae Rhodes, Cleo Ross, Jennie Lee Robinson, "Genvia Martin and Ophelia "Gussie" Cunningham.
"Lo" attended Decatur High School and Calhoun Community College. During his early years he was baptized under the leadership of the late Bishop Herman Finley. He taught Bible classes, he was a Sunday School teacher, ministry of baptism, secretary of Young People Service, ordained Deacon, trustee member, choir member and the church drummer. Two of the songs that he led was "Lord Do It" and "I Been in the Storm too Long" Until his death Deacon Johnson was under the leadership of Bishop Jonathon Pulliam where he was the oldest active member.
Deacon Johnson fought to the end. He made his transition on August 30th at Decatur General Hospital.
In 1978, Lorenzo was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Sharon E. McDonald. This union was blessed with three sons, Lorenzo (Renada Davis) Johnson, Jr., Desmond O. Johnson and Derrick R. Johnson; two adorable grandsons, Jaydas Johnson and Princeton Davis; three sisters, Delois Fowler and Wanda (Richard) Mason of Decatur, Dorothy Chapman of New York; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Johnson of Decatur and Dorothy Johnson of Ocala; one brother, Lamar Johnson of Louisville, KY; three brothers-in-law, Larry (Mary) McDonald of Decatur, Olonzo McDonald of Maryland and Charles Wiggins of Decatur; four special nephews, Willie Bruce Campbell, Brandon Wiggins, Timothy (LaKeena) Bumpus; four special nieces, Tiffany, Paula, Kristy Wiggins and April Tucker; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
