Homegoing Service for Mrs. Lydia Brenda Davis 74, of Decatur will be noon Saturday at Westside M.B. Church with inhumation to follow in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service.
Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00PM until 5:00PM. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00PM until 6:00PM in the chapel of Reynolds Funeral Home.
Lydia Brenda Davis was born on November 2, 1950, in Decatur, Alabama to Frank and Mable Davis. Brenda transitioned on February 15, 2025, at the Decatur Campus of Decatur Morgan Hospital, with her family at her side. Her faithful, loving daughter. Tracy served as her caregiver until God called her home.
Brenda accepted Christ at Westside Missionary Baptist Church at the tender age of eight years old. She was a faithful member serving in ministries such as the Missionary Society (Sunbeam and the Red Circle), the Junior Usher Board, vacation Bible school and the culinary ministry. She was especially fond of the choir, often serving as a soloist. Everyone enjoyed her beautiful voice. Additionally, she performed in local choirs such as the Interfaith Choir and gospel recording artist Morris Griffin & Friends.
She was a member of Lakeside High School Class of 1969 where she played French Horn for the award-winning Lakeside Band. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Tuskegee Institute. She continued her education to receive a Master of Education degree from Alabama A& M University.
Brenda served as a teacher for the Lawrence County Board of Education at Speake High School for 31 years. She was a member of Swing Phi Swing Social Fellowship, Inc. at Tuskegee Institute, Eta Phi Beta Sorority, The Red Hat Society of Decatur, Alabama. Brenda was a faithful and dutiful member serving in several positions in Elizabeth Chapter No. 40 Order of Eastern Star, PHA. She was a Star Point, Secretary, Worthy Matron, and Past Matron. She was also a member of District 15 Matrons and Patrons Council. She was a chartered member of the Decatur Cupidettes serving for 22 years. During her service, she was hailed as an exemplary secretary and treasurer. She treasured this fellowship of sisterhood until her passing.
Brenda is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Mable Davis, her sisters Willie Mae Addison and Bette Garfield Sloan.
She leaves to mourn one daughter Tracy Davis Leaks (Brian): three loving grandsons, Brian Leaks Jr., Trace Leaks and David Leaks all of Bartlett, TN; one sister, Joe Frances Bedney and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
