A Celebration of Life Services for Ms. Marilyn Jenette Bates 72 of Decatur, Alabama will be noon, Saturday June 18, 2022 at Shiloh M.B. Church with Dr. Edward Owens officiating. Inhumation will follow in Decatur City Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Friday June 17, 2022 from 1:00PM until 5:30PM at Reynolds Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:30PM until 6:30PM in Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel.
Marilyn Jenette Bates who was affectionately called “Meathie” was born in Lawrence County, Alabama on August 25,1949 to the late Robert and Irma Miller Bates. She was granted her wings on June 13, 2022, in Huntsville, Alabama. “Meathie” attended Tennessee Valley School. She was a loving person and a wonderful cook. All those who knew her loved and appreciated her.
At an early age, “Meathie” accepted Jesus as her personal savior and united with Bethlehem P.B. Church in Hillsboro, AL, where she was a faithful and active member. In 2010, she moved her membership and united with Shiloh M.B. Church in Decatur, AL where she was also a loving and faithful member.
“Meathie”, was preceded in death by her son, Brian Harris and siblings Robert Bates Jr., Earl (Sonny) Bates, Judy Hampton, and Winston Bates.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving daughter, who faithfully and lovingly took care of her until her final hour, Angela Bates Harris of Decatur, AL; two loving sons, Kelvin Bates and Travis Bates, both of Decatur, AL; 21 grandchildren and one very special granddaughter, who helped with her “Granny” whenever needed, Minesha Troupe (Marquise) of Madison, AL; 22 great grandchildren; her siblings, four sisters, Shirley Davis of Hillsboro, AL, Alberta Brown, Vivian McDaniel both of Newburg, NY and Janice Watkins (Don) of Hillsboro, AL; four brothers, Garyon Bates, and Levart Bates, both of Hillsboro, AL, Russell Bates of Courtland, AL, and Stanley Bates, of Hillsboro, AL; one aunt, Kay Miller, of Madison, AL. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
