Mattie Jones Obituary
Graveside Service for Mrs. Mattie P. Jones, 80 of Decatur will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Sterrs Cemetery with the Reverend Christopher Collins officiating. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Mattie P. Jones was born October 8, 1941 in Morgan County, Alabama to the late Allison and Mary Stegall Climon. She transitioned on October 3, 2022 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville, Alabama.
Mattie who was also known as Kate Climon attended Lakeside High School and later received certification in Cosmetology from Calhoun Community College. Her employment consisted of Prestolite, Joe Sartain Ford, the Chamber of Commerce and the private residences of several physicians and lawyer, Norman Roby.
She accepted Christ and an early age and united with St. Stephens P.B. Church while under the leadership of the late Elder Eugene Lewis. She was a faithful member that served on the usher board and choir. She loved St. Stephens and was very active until her health began to fail.
Kate was very independent, private but enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to dress up and was very outspoken. She let you know point blank how she felt. She will be missed by all that had the blessed opportunity of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Archie Jones, Sr; sons, Jonathan Jones and Archie Jones, Jr; siblings, Linda Gail Climon, Mildred Timberlake, James Climon and Alfred Climon.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: children, Gregory (Kim) Jones of Decatur, Evonne Stewart of Chicago, IL; siblings, Wanda Climon of Decatur and Louie Climon of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church members and friends.
Honorary Flower bearers and pallbearers will be church members and friends.
