A Celebration of Life Mrs. Mattie Eva Brown Ricks, 73 of Decatur, Alabama will be 1:00pm Friday, November 9, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Courtland, Alabama with the Reverend Edwin Crump officiating and the Reverend Christopher Neloms, host pastor. Inhumation will follow in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. Public viewing will be Wednesday from 3-6 and Thursday from 10-7 at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Mattie Eva Ricks was born on June 13, 1945 to the late Abe Mason and Sally Brown in Courtland, AL. She departed this life on Friday, November 2, 2018 at her residence..
At an early age she confessed a hope in Christ and joined the First Missionary Baptist Church of Courtland, AL where she remained until God called her home.
Mattie attended Central High School, however due to family circumstances she left school to work and assist her mother in providing for younger siblings. In 1962 she married George D. Ricks the love of her life and to their union was born five children.
She was employed by International Paper in Courtland, AL from 1980 to 2007 where she was a faithful and dedicated employee.
Mattie was kind, always giving and always taking care of others. What a compassionate person. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Ricks and son, Ricky D. Ricks.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four devoted daughters, Emma Ricks of Kennesaw, GA, Georgann Ricks of Trinity, AL, Sheila Ricks Bowman (Thomas) of Courtland, AL and Nekida Ricks (Lionel) of Decatur, AL; one special son, Billy Joe Mason of Decatur, AL; ten grandchildren, Rickie, Justin, Dezsarae, Danyelle, Amberly, Xavier, Casey, Chelsea, Azalea and Grayson.; ten great-grandchildren, Caden, Jaden, Jeremiah, Samiya, Carter, Olivia, Carter, Christian, Legend and baby Freeman; two sisters, Laura Staten of New Castle, DE and Lela Reid (Carl) of Hillsboro, AL; four brothers, S. T. Fuqua (Jean) and Robert Brown (Lillie) of Decatur, AL, Lester Brown (Lucy) of Courtland, AL, Rufus Mason (Evelyn) of Louisville, KY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
