Mattie Lee (Swoope) Ward

Graveside service celebrating the life for Mother Mattie Lee Ward, 99 of Atlanta, GA and formerly of Decatur, Alabama will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Calvary Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Dylan Woodall officiating. Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00 pm till 6:00 pm at Reynolds Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mattie Lee Swoope Ward was born April 2, 1922 to the late Will and Sarah Moore Swoopes in Courtland, AL. She departed this life on May 19, 2021 at the Dunwoody Nursing Home in Atlanta, GA. 

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama. She served faithfully on the Mother's board until she relocated to Atlanta, GA to be with her daughter. She attended Decatur Negro High School in Decatur, AL.

Her sons, Herman Johnson and Willie Ward preceded her in death as well as her parents.

She leaves to mourn: her daughter, Norma Richardson of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren, Carmen Jones of Louisiana, Felecia Harrison of Madison, AL, Donovan Johnson (Michelle) of Florida, Karen Whitmire (Lonnie) of Mississippi, Weena Jones of Birmingham, AL, Willie Ward III (Michelle) of Decatur, AL, Erica Richardson of Atlanta, GA; a host of great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Carmella Ward of Decatur, AL and Gracie Stewart of Rockledge, FL and other relatives and friends.
