McKynzie Davia Chatman, age 26, of Decatur, Alabama, was born on December 30, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital to Keleshia D. Jones and David E. Chatman. Surrounded by love and cherished memories, McKynzie was called home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2026.
McKynzie received her early education in the Decatur City Magnet Schools and later attended Cedar Ridge Middle School (Decatur, AL), where she proudly made the cheerleading team. She went on to attend Prattville High School (Prattville, AL), where she graduated in 2018.
From an early age, McKynzie grew up fellowshipping at Moulton Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama, under the leadership of Pastor Tracy Seltzer. She accepted Christ at the age of seven at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, under the leadership of the late Reverend Harold K. Lester. Chattanooga held a special place in her heart, as she spent her summers there with her great-aunt, great-uncle, and cousins, creating cherished memories filled with travel, laughter, and learning how to cook together.
In 2021, McKynzie returned to Decatur, where she welcomed the greatest joy of her life—her son, Blair Princeton Chatman, born in September 2021. Being a mother was her proudest role, and she lovingly embraced it with devotion and joy. Known affectionately as “Blair Bear,” her son was the center of her world, and nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with him.
McKynzie was a hard worker who took pride in providing for her baby. She was employed at several establishments throughout the years, including Wendy’s, Arby’s, and Bojangles, where she worked for extended periods and built meaningful relationships. Outside of work, she loved to dance, laugh, and enjoy time with her friends and family. Though she was a homebody at heart, she truly enjoyed living life and making memories with those she loved.
McKynzie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jarfean and Reezeller Chatman, and her nephew, Kai Patterson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Blair Chatman; her loving and supportive parents, Keleshia Jones of Harvest, Alabama, and David Chatman of Vallehermoso Springs, Alabama; her siblings, Akayshia Barbee of Harvest, Alabama, Maurian Barbee of Decatur, Alabama, and Imari Jones of Decatur, Alabama; her nephews, Kaden Patterson and Kahlil Patterson of Harvest, Alabama; her grandmother, Thelma Potts of Harvest, Alabama; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other family members and friends who loved and adored her.
McKynzie will be remembered for her beautiful spirit, her love for her son, and the joy she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
