Graveside services for Mr. Melvin Thomas Burgess, Sr., 79 of Danville, Alabama, will be 10:00 AM Saturday, October 30, 2021at Lindsey Memorial Gardens in Danville, Alabama. Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM in the Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Melvin Burgess Sr. was born on September 7, 1942 in Lawrence County to the late Mack Burgess and Lillie Pruitt Whitson. He departed this life on October 25, 2021 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age. He attended Moulton High School in Lawrence County, Alabama. He then went to work at the Box Factory and Ingalls Shipyard, where he worked for 40 years before retiring. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 69.
He was always smiling and willing to help and share his life experiences, while providing helpful information to all he came in contact with.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Mrs. Annie Pearl Burgess; a son, Nathan Allen Burgess; five sisters, Tommie Lee McDaniel, Annie Williams, Corrina McDaniel, Gladys Swoopes and Alberta Millis; five brothers, Therman White, Benny Whitson, Bluitt Whitson, Essie Whitson and Doc Whitson.
He leaves to cherish his memory: sons, Melvin Burgess Jr. of Oakville, AL, Christopher (Elizabeth) Burgess of Decatur, Paul (Joann) Pointer of Hartselle; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pastor Will Whitson of Mansfield, OH and Homer Whitson of Lewisburg, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
