Meshonda Watkins Obituary

Graveside Service for Mrs. Meshonda Kenyetta Torain Watkins, 44 of Decatur, Alabama will be  1:00 PM Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Sterrs Cemetery with the Reverend Ronald Merriweather officiating.  Public viewing will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home.

Meshonda Kenyetta Torain Watkins was born on July 17, 1975 to Mary Dell Love and the late Jerome Ayers in Morgan County, Alabama. She departed this life to be with the Lord on May 13, 2020 in Decatur, Alabama.

Meshonda accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully for many years. After leaving Canaan, she became the choir director at James Chapel in Athens, Alabama under the leadership of Pastor Perry Torain Sr. She remained faithful in the music ministry until God called her home.

She was very hardworking and determined. She graduated from Austin High School in Decatur, AL and Virginia College with an associated degree in Huntsville, Alabama.

Everyone that knew Meshonda knew that she loved her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring sister, a special aunt and a dedicated friend.  She loved singing and sports, but most of all she had a deep love for fishing. Fishing was her hobby. Meshonda’s beautiful voice, welcoming smile and bubbly personality will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Ayers.

Meshonda leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband,Roderick Watkins, of Decatur, AL; her three daughters, Sadiah Torain, Jaynia Stevenson both of Decatur, AL and La’Quincyia Watkins of Huntsville, AL; one son, Roderick Watkins II of Tanner, AL; her loving mother,Mary Dell Love of Decatur, AL; loving and devoted grandparents, William Jr. and Sadie Torain of Decatur, AL; a special aunt/sister, Cowanna Torain-Sales of Decatur, AL; a special uncle/brother, Pastor Perry Torain Sr. (Cheryl) of Decatur, AL ; three loving sisters, Tiffany Menefield, and Tamala Jones both of Decatur, AL, Crystal Wright (Torrah) of Madison, AL; three devoted brothers, Jermaine Cunningham, Jarvis Cunningham, and Xavier Orr all of Decatur, AL; special nieces and nephews, Tyeisha Turney, Chelsea Torain, Kylan Torain Sr., Perry Torain Jr. all of Decatur, AL; a special cousin/friend, Rena Cosby of Decatur, AL; a special brother/friend, Mark Mitchell of Madison, AL; a loving mother-in-law, Edith Canada of Decatur, AL; a caring father-in-law, Lorenza (Margaret) Mitchell of Decatur, AL; two special brothers-in-law, Derrick Watkins and Jason Stovall of Decatur, AL; two special singing groups and devoted friends, Just For You and Total Package; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
