Graveside Service for Mr. Michael Lorenzo Balentine I, age 61 of Decatur, Alabama will be 11:30 a.m. Sunday August 30, 2020 at Sterrs Cemetery with Bro. Arthur Hullett officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.
Michael began this earthly journey on February 20, 1959 in Decatur, Alabama born to the late Mary Ayers Davis and Leroy “Sonny” Balentine Jr. He shedded his earthly garments and entered into eternal rest on August 25, 2020 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Michael, also known as "Honda” or “Big Mike” accepted Christ and was baptized and added to the church at an early age. He assisted in varies capacities in the ministries of Newcomb Street, Eastside and Beltline Churches of Christ.
He attended Austin High School. He was formerly employed at Wolverine Tube where he served as a Union Representative and General Motors. He later began working at Beech Street Boys and Girls Club, where he served as Unit Director for 11 years. where he impacted and changed many lives by being a positive role model.
Michael was preceded in death by: his parents, Mary Ayers Davis and Leroy Balentine Jr.; his sisters, Jeanetta Balentine and Felicia Balentine; brother, Calvin Balentine and his grandparents; Calvin King Ayers and Freddie Mae Jordan Ayers, Leroy Sr. and Eunice Maclin Balentine.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory; His loving and devoted wife, Sherika Ricks Balentine; his children, Shawana Gill, Shanitra Fuqua, KaMeko Campbell, Michael Balentine II, Kelvin Birgans, Temperance Ricks and Calvin Balentine all of Decatur, AL.; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; siblings, Dalelia Davis of Hillsboro, Ronnie Seibert of Birkenfeld, Germany, Linda Barnwell Quinn, the Rev. Mark (Crystal) Barnwell, the Rev. Issac Barnwell, Arnold Blair all of Augusta, GA;aunts, Brenda Allen, Annie Ruth Harris, Hermina Ayers, Bernice Ayers and Annie Mae Balentine all of Decatur, Eulylia Balentine and Vernette (Anthony) Elliott both of Madison, Mary Balentine of Dover, DE, Dorothy Louise (George) Woods, of Cleveland, OH; an Uncle who was more like his brother; Roderick (Carolyn) Ayers of Decatur: Parents In-Law; Elder Billie and Glenda Mason of Courtland, AL, a special cousin who was like a brother, Terrence (Cheerisa) Allen, a host of sisters and brothers in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
