Ollie Mae Toney was born in Limestone County on April 10, 1931, to the late Milo and Odell Clemmons Clay. Ollie departed this earthly life peacefully at her residence to go to her heavenly Kingdom on October 12, 2025, in Decatur, Alabama. Ollie Mae confessed her hope in Christ at an early age and was a faithful member under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Martin, Reverend Lewis, and under the current leadership of Elder Christopher Collins. Ollie attended Morgan County Schools, where she received her GED and later pursed her nursing degree at Calhoun Community College where she received her LPN license. Ollie married the love of her life Harris Toney, and to this union, six children were born. Ollie was known as “Ma,” or many called her Mrs. OMT. She was a skilled and loving homemaker who raised, cooked, and cared for children, grandchildren, and many others in the neighborhood. Ollie was a caring and compassionate nurse for many years at the Lurleen B. Wallace center. Then went on the work faithfully for Dr. Joel A. Powell and his family for many years until retirement. Ollie was a fun, loving person who enjoyed life and her family. Ollie would tell a joke and make you smile but would also put you in check if needed with no hesitation. Besides being an awesome caregiver and wonderful cook,
“Ma” also enjoyed gardening. Before her health failed, you could ride down 6th avenue Northwest many days and see her in the yard planting flowers or picking weeds. Ollie will be missed by all who knew her. Ollie was preceded in death by her husband, Harris Toney; her parents, Milo and Odell Clay; her daughter, Brenda Clay Toney Jones; grandchildren, Gary Jones, Nakeisha D. Jones, Teresa McDaniel, and Michael Jones: and seven sisters, Willie Lee Clay, Tometta Woodruff, Lillie Owens, Pearline Erskine, Julia Ann Higgins, Miola Mostiller, and Annie Delois Clay.
Ollie’s memory will forever be cherished and legacy of love carried on by her five children, Evelyn McDaniel of Seattle, WA, Marilyn D. Toney Lawson of Tacoma, WA, Harriet W. Toney Ofomata of Decatur, AL, Christopher (Dr. Heather) Toney of Jefferson, GA, and Vincent (Lisa) Toney of Harvest, AL; sixteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
