Oscar Goodwin, Jr., was born on June 17, 1939, in Colbert County, Alabama, to the union of Oscar Goodwin, Sr., and Lila Mae (Shaw) Goodwin McGhaee.

On January 23, 2026, Oscar ended his earthly journey to be with the Lord. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age.

Oscar was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Rosalind Whitfield Goodwin in July 2019.

In his early years, Oscar worked at California Fertilizer Co. plant in Decatur, Alabama. After discovering he was allergic to the chemicals...He decided he wanted to be an entrepreneur!

Oscar who was affectionately called “Oscar Jr., Big O, OG,and Pig.” was well known and a beloved member of Decatur and North Alabama for over 80 years. He wore many hats and would do almost anything for anybody. If you needed a car... He got you! If you needed a home...He got you! If you needed to place to eat and party...He got you! But most of all!...If you needed...advice and a comforting wordand love... HE HAD YOU!

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Goodwin, Sr., and Lila Mae (Shaw) Goodwin McGhaee; and wife,Rosalind Whitfield Goodwin. Brothers... Leo Goodwin, Homer Goodwin, and Leroy Goodwin; sisters, Theresa Turner and Bessie Lee Sanders.

He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted son, Marlon J.Thompson (Decatur, Alabama); loving sisters, Haley M.Shepherd (Fairlawn, Ohio) and Delores Laryea (Nashville,Tennessee); brother, Johnnie Sr. (Mary), and Goodwin(Ardmore, Alabama); aunt, Dora Hall (Kenosha, Wisconsin);and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews,cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A very special one of us is gone; a voice we loved to hear is still,a place is vacant in our hearts and home, that can never be filled.
