Reynolds Funeral Home announces with deepest sympathy the passing of Mrs. Ramona Humphrey, 92 of Decatur, AL. Mrs. Humphrey died on February 14, 2021 at her residence. Graveside Service will be noon Sunday at Burningtree Memorial Gardens. Public viewing will be Saturday from 1:00 till 5:00 at Reynolds Funeral Home.
RAMONA MATTHEWS HUMPHREY was born November 15, 1928 to the late Hayward Matthews and the late Mahalie Johnson Matthews in Cedar Lake, Alabama. She departed this life on Sunday, February 14, 2021.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Lake Alabama. Mother Humphrey served faithfully in several Church auxiliaries including Church musician, bookkeeper, the Missionary Society, Mother’s Board, Sunday school teacher, and Deaconess Board.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Robert Humphrey, Sr. on December 30, 1943. To this union four children were born. Serving her family and community was a joy to Mrs. Humphrey. Cooking for others was one of her passions. She loved making apple pies, pear preserves and chow chow for her family. Former students of Cedar Lake school still rave over the homemade rolls and apple cheese crisp she served when she planned and prepared meals for them at the school. Mrs. Humphrey retired from Sears Department store.
Mrs. Humphrey taught her children to reverence God and instilled in them a sense of loving and caring for each other. They loved their Mother unconditionally and tenderly cared for her.
Mrs. Humphrey was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Patrick and Chester Matthews and sister Ada Veatrice Fowler, and a son, Harold Van Humphrey who passed away as an infant
To cherish her memory she leaves her three children, Norma Humphrey-Fisher, Constance (Ira) Humphrey-Drenon, Robert (Metta) Humphrey, Jr.. her grandchildren Kelly Fisher Caldwell, Alfred (Christina) Fisher, Steven Fisher, Harrison Rodrick Hodge, April Mahalie James, Robert Wesley Humphrey, and Andria (Atu) Johnson, great grandchildren Kasey Essien, Kamille Calwell, Kahseim Fisher, Steven Fisher, Alex Fisher, Kennedy Ford, Madison Ford, Justin Gonzales, Alyssa Humphrey, 4 Drenon grands 15 Drenon great grands, 7 Drenon great great grands, Averi Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
