Ray'shun Markelle Bates

Funeral Service for Mr. Ray'shun Markelle Bates,23, of Decatur, AL will be noon Saturday at United Pentecostal Jubilee House of Prayer with Bishop T.D. Strong officiating. Inhumation will follow in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00PM until 5:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.

Ray’shun Markelle Bates was born August 3, 2001, in Decatur, Alabama, to his two loving parents, Shavonne Nicole Bates and Desmond D’Juan Jones.  He departed his life on November 9, 2024 at Huntsville Hospital.

Ray’shun attended Decatur High School, Decatur Heritage and Austin High School.

He devoted his life to Christ at United Pentecostal Jubilee House of Prayer (UPJHOP), where he played the drums and sang in the youth choir.

He was preceded in death by his two loving grandmothers, Diane Bates and Gloria Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Shavonne Bates; father, Desmond Jones; godmother, Yolanda Baker; daughter, R’Moni Marielle Bates all of Decatur, AL; two  brothers, Ronald Derrell Rice, Jr., of Huntsville, AL and Carmelo Lashawn Collier of Decatur, AL; one sister, Endi Alyse Jones of Decatur, AL; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives AL.
