A Homegoing Celebration will be held for Mr. Richard Lee Ashford on Friday, November 6, 2020, 12 Noon, at Wheeler Chapel Church in Courtland, AL, with Bishop Thomas Davis, Officiating, interment in Courtland Cemetery. Public viewing will be Thursday, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Richard Lee Ashford was born March 18, 1959 to the late Daniel Ashford and Della Mae Hood Ashford in Lawrence County, Alabama. He passed away on October 31, 2020 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus in Decatur, Alabama.
He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Triedstone Church and later joined Wheeler Chapel Church where he served on the Usher Board until his death.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Vera Ashford of Decatur; a loving mother, Della Mae Ashford of North Courtland, AL; one daughter, Christy (Kelsey) Jones of Meridianville, AL “His Girls” (Jaylen and Thai Smiley); five sons, Roderick (Kesha) Young, Brad Young and Mark Young all of Chattanooga, TN, Terry (Rosalin) Smiley, Telly Smiley of Decatur; two brothers, Willie C (Kathy) Ashford and Bruce (Doris) Hampton of Decatur; five sisters, Janiel (Henry) Billen and Leanna Marshall of North Courtland, AL, Queen (Melvin) Osborne both of Decatur; “A Special Baby Sister”, Dorothy (Willie) King of Town Creek, AL; five sisters-in-law, Katie Sutherlin, Catherine (Fred) King, Sylvia Morris all of Decatur, Novella (George) Smith of Decatur, Mildred (Tommy) Ross of Louisville, KY; five brothers-in-law, Don Smiley of Athens, John (Donna) Smiley of Courtland, AL, Connie C Smiley, Lester (Georgia) Smiley and Jessie (Michelle) Smiley all of Decatur; four aunts, Glenda Salvage of Georgia, Irene Johnson of Muscle Shoals, AL, Sally Hood and Rebecca Hood of Town Creek, AL; 27 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Terry Smiley, Telly Smiley, Roderick Goode, Willie Mosley, Randal Gray and Mario Nicholas .
