Roberta Renee Wheeler

 Funeral Service for Ms. Roberta Renee Wheeler, 61 of Decatur, Alabama will be noon, Thursday November 16, 2023, in Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel. Inhumation will follow in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Wednesday November 15, 2023, from 1:00PM until 5:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.  The service will be live-streamed and information is below with the link.

Roberta Renee Wheeler Clay was born on July 11, 1962 in Decatur, AL to the late Benjamin and Estella Lyle Wheeler. She entered eternal rest on November 8, 2023 at Decatur Morgan Hospital- Decatur General Campus.

She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Apostolic Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Herman Finley. She attended school in the Decatur City School District and later relocated to Nashville, Tennessee to become a Certified Nursing Aide (CNA). For most of her tenure she was a CNA for Sunbridge Home Healthcare, Incorporating in Decatur, AL. 

She also served as a private duty nurse to many elderly local residents before retiring.

Roberta affectionately known as “Latonna” loved and lived life to the fullest on her own terms. Her contagious personality and ability to charm anyone with her humorous puns will truly be missed. She was a hidden gem who had a walk you could recognize from anywhere and was someone who smiled through any and everything and refused to let any obstacle hold her down. You could always find her dancing and singing her blues and being the life and light of any party. She was a loving mother, sister, grandma and friend who displayed love and affection to everyone and whose strength, resilience and independence will always be remembered.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Estella Louise Wheeler. 

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Ralph O’neal Clay; three daughters, Ebonee Wheeler of Nashville, TN, Arlandra Wheeler and Jasmine Clay both of Montgomery, AL; two sons, Ralph O’neal Clay Jr. of Decatur, AL and Desmond King of Nashville, TN; six grandchildren, Martavious Wheeler, Martel Munday Jr., Shania and Khai Wheeler, Jace and Avielle Clay; five sisters, Benetta (Delbert) Wheeler Fuller of Decatur, AL, Sheila Wheeler of Nashville, TN, Debbie Wheeler of Lexington, KY, Annie Ford of Decatur, AL and Barbara Montgomery of Yakima, Washington and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins as well as special long-time friends, Wayne Reedus and Lakiesha Peterson.
