Graveside service celebrating the life of Mrs. Roxie Mae Emerson Gurley 99 of Huntsville and formerly of Somerville will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Currys Chapel Cemetery with the Reverend Kelvin Jones officiating. Public viewing will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 5-6 at the funeral home.
Roxie Mae Emerson Gurley was born in Morgan County, Alabama on May 21, 1921 to the late James Luke and Roxie Draper Emerson. She departed this life on August 9, 2020 at the Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, AL.
At an early age she joined Curry Chapel Church in Valhermoso Springs, AL.
She moved to Detroit, MI to pursue a career working at Perini’s Cafeteria, where she worked for over 30 years. After retiring, she returned to her hometown, Somerville, AL. She loved gardening and being outside. She was a very sweet lady, she loved her family and would help them any way that she could. She was a strong and determined lady.
She was married to the late Gunnie Gurley and to this union, one son was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Maggie Emerson Davis, Henrietta Emerson Gurley, Millie Emerson Woods, Arlene Emerson Orr and Sallie Mae Emerson Sharpley; four brothers, William Lincoln “Son” Emerson, Edward “Nap” Emerson, Jim Emerson and James Howard Emerson; one grandson, James “Boggie” Gurley.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, James A. (Annie) Gurley of Huntsville, AL; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
