Roy Williams Obituary

Roy Bethume Williams was born in Decatur, Alabama on Saturday, February 17th 1962, to the Rev. Jimmie and Larlie (Cooper) Williams Sr, who preceded him in death. To this union, 15 children were born, seven (7) of whom preceded him in death; Willie Williams, Julia Townsend, Mary Strong, Charles Williams, Ethel Lynn Bridgeforth, George Williams, and MacRay Williams Sr.

Roy, the youngest of 15 siblings, made his transition on July 9, 2020 in Detroit , Michigan. He loved his family and was a giving and caring person, one who put the needs of others beyond himself wanting nothing in return.

He loved the Lord and accepted Him as his savior at an early age. He attended Morgan County School system and once he became of age worked at Littrell Lumber Company until he relocated to Detroit, Michigan where he lived the majority of his life.

Roy was a very hard worker and was always busy helping out with landscaping, household, and moving projects. He worked at many companies throughout the Detroit Metropolitan area which included the Wayne County Sheriff Department, Korex, and was most recently employed at M&M Management  Co. from 2014 until March of 2020 when his illness no longer allowed him.

Roy was known to draw many with his contagious and loving personality. People loved being around him as he loved to dance, play cards, hang out at the casino, travel to Alabama, and spend time with family and friends. And not to be forgotten, his love for coffee and sweets. He was always smiling, laughing, and helping out wherever and however he could. He found ways to find the positive in every situation and could fill a room with his smile.

Roy had a great love for his family and leaves to cherish his memory: seven (7) siblings, Jimmie Williams Jr and Geraldine Lockwood of Detroit, MI; Leon (Bridgett) Williams, Robert Williams, Elizabeth Bazemore, and Harriette Frances Williams of Decatur, AL and Jeanette Collier of Hillsboro, AL; a sister-in-law, Anna Williams of Detroit, MI; aunt, Hazel Byrd of Town Creek, AL; uncle, Robert Williams of Decatur, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Roy had a genuine love for family and life. He will be missed dearly, and in his words, “Everything will be ok.”
