Sarita Quinette (Scruggs) Laurent

Funeral Service for Ms. Sarita Quinette Scruggs-Laurent 46 of Nashville, TN and formerly of Decatur, AL will be 2:00PM Sunday at St. Stephens P.B. Church. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Saturday from 1:00PM until 4:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.  

Sarita Quinette Scruggs-Laurent, a native of Decatur, Alabama, was born to her beloved mother the late Pamela Gail Scruggs and father Mr. Billy Kennedy on December 23, 1977 in Decatur, AL. Sarita transitioned from time to eternity on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at her home in Nashville, TN. Sarita confessed in Christ at an early age and joined King’s Memorial United Methodist Church. She served in the capacity as a member of the youth choir during her membership at King’s Memorial under the direction of her uncle Gregory O. Scruggs.

Sarita received her early education in the Decatur City School system and graduated from Decatur High School in 1996. After receiving her diploma, Sarita continued her education at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she pursued a degree in Liberal Arts. She later enlisted into the military serving her country with the United States Army as a missile technician.  After an honorable discharge, Sarita steered her dedication to fitness where she became a successful business owner, maintaining her own health wellness center in Decatur, AL. During her fitness journey she guided and served several community members with their personal fitness goals and challenges.

Sarita was preceded in death by: her mother, Pamela G. Scruggs; great grandparents, Tommie and Ovenia Redus; grandfather, Willie C. Scruggs Sr.; uncle, Willie C. Scruggs Jr.; grandparents, Theodore and Elizabeth Kennedy; brother, Corey Kennedy; aunt, Mary Allen; dearest cousin, Demetria Spraggins and brother-in-law, Steve Perkins.

Sarita leaves to cherish her memory: two devoted children, daughter Samaria Laurent  of Atlanta, GA; and son Maurice Laurent Jr. actively serving in the United States Army stationed in South Korea; father, Deacon Billy Kennedy (Angela) of Decatur, AL; a loving devoted grandmother, Billie D. Scruggs of Decatur, AL; siblings-Frederick Kennedy (Nyonica) of Wesley Chapel, FL; Jarvis Scruggs of Decatur, AL; Cartrela Perkins and Christy Hicks both of Decatur, AL; aunts, Alma Redus of Cleveland, OH; Carolyn Scruggs, Teresia Spraggins both of Decatur, AL; Elizabeth Porter (Nathaniel) of Columbus, GA; uncles, Gregory Scruggs (Gloria) of Decatur AL; Paul Scruggs of Chicago, IL; Ronnie Scruggs (Arnell) of Lakeland, TN; William Scruggs (Dana) of Decatur, AL; very special cousin, Quinetta Scruggs-Hambrick (Okelvis) of Atlanta, GA; dedicated partner, Mr. Donte Willingham of Nashville, TN; and a host of other uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.
