A Celebration of Life for Mother Shirley Louise Buford Vaughn, 66 of Huntsville will be 1:00 pm Friday, March 26, 2021 at Decatur City Cemetery with the Reverend Leroy Clark officiating. There will be no public viewing and Reynolds Funeral Home is directing.
Shirley, the daughter of the late Elizabeth Buford Fletcher and Townsend Griffith, entered this world on November 22, 1954 in Morgan County, AL.
Her formative years taught her the meaning of love and caring for others. Her early educational training began at Westlawn Elementary School, Lakeside High School and Austin High School.
Mother Vaughn gave her life to God at an early age and was a dedicated and committed member and Mother of Westside Missionary Baptist Church. Mother Vaughn was a songbird for the Adult and Mass Choirs. She served as a dutiful Usher, Sunday School and Bible Study participant and was a faithful Mother of the Church until her health began to fail.
Mother Shirley Vaughn was employed at Belk (formerly Parisian) Department Store in Decatur, AL as a sales consultant and visual merchandiser. Her affectionate smile and personality along with her helping spirit touched many lives during her years at Belk. Numerous fond memories and lasting friendships were fashioned.
Mother Vaughn entered into eternal rest on March 19, 2021 at the North Alabama Specialty Hospital in Athens, AL.
Those who welcomed Mother Vaughn into God’s Heavenly Mansion include her parents; her husband, Deacon William Vaughn, Jr; one brother, Willie “Mickey” Smallwood; and her son, Dennis Lee Brown, Jr.
Mother Vaughn leaves to carry on her affectionate legacy: one devoted daughter, Tonya (Melvin) Keebler of Huntsville, AL; one cherished son, Brian (Janeer) Morris of Florence, AL; three treasured grandchildren, Dennis Montreal Brown, Meyah Chardae Miller and Saniyah Louise Morris; siblings, Earnestine Fletcher, Peggy Allen, Jessie Malone, all of Decatur, AL; Larry (Delores) Fletcher of Belle Mina, AL and Cortez (Gloria) Fletcher of Madison, AL. Her life-long best friend, Ruthie King of Youngstown, OH. Also, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
