Stephen Clay Perkins was born January 4th, 1984, to Zelma Clay Perkins and the late James “Bobby” Perkins of Hillsboro, AL.

Steve attended East Lawrence High School and graduated in the class of 2002.  He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized while attending David Temple Primitive Baptist Church.  He and his siblings were active in ministry throughout their childhood. Stephen attended worship with his family at St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama.

After graduating, Steve moved to Decatur, AL where he lived and worked until his passing. He met the love of his life Catrela Kennedy in 2013. They were married in 2016, and together, raised their two daughters Jada and Avani. Stephen was an active father and enjoyed supporting the girls in sports and school activities. If you did not see him at a game supporting his children, he could be found at Crunch Fitness where he trained. Steve was an avid fitness enthusiast and worked out regularly, as well as also trained others. Steve was employed with J.M. Smuckers Company and enjoyed working with his coworkers who became friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Perkins, and his grandmothers Oquilla Clay and Novella Perkins.

Stephen was tragically taken from us on September 29th. at Huntsville Hospital. He was loved by all who knew him. His welcoming smile, genuine laugh, and loving heart will be greatly missed. He was passionate about his family, and we take comfort in knowing he is with his Savior.

His heart and legacy are left with his loving wife, Catrela Perkins of Decatur, AL; two daughters, Jada Billings and Avani Perkins of Decatur, AL; his loving mother, Zelma Clay Perkins of Hillsboro, AL; supportive mother and father-in-law, Billy and Angela Porter Kennedy; devoted siblings, Nicholas Perkins (Angela), Lakeena Bumpus (The Reverend Timothy) all of Decatur and Elder Bernard Birgans of Huntsville; he leaves one loving uncle, Duvel Clay (Ruth); two aunts, Vivian McDaniel and Susie Perkins, all of Hillsboro, AL. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. We were blessed to be loved by Stephen and he will forever be in our hearts.
