Vondra King Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Ms. Vondra D. King, 55 of Courtland, Alabama will be noon Thursday, October 17, 2024 at First Baptist Church-Courtland with the Reverend O. Christopher Neloms officiating.  Inhumation will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery.  The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Reynolds Funeral Home. 

Vondra Debrese King affectionately known as “Breezy” &“BonBon” was born July 2, 1969, in Florence AL to the Reverend William T. King and Ruby Garth Diggs. She completed her earthly journey on October 11, 2024 at River City Center in Decatur, Alabama.

Vondra professed a hope in Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church Courtland, while under the leadership of the late Pastor O.C. Neloms.  She remained a faithfully-committed servant until her health failed. Vondra was a member of the choir, which  loved singing, usher board and youth committee where she taught Sunday school, Bible study and Vacation Bible school.  As Vondra’s health continued to decline, she still found the energy to occasionally teach Children's Church.

Vondra graduated from Courtland High School in 1987. She furthered her education at Alabama A&M University and Calhoun Community College. She enjoyed cooking and tutoring the children in the neighborhood, especially in math. 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents: (Maternal) Percel Garth, Sr. and Edna Earl Whitley Garth; (Paternal) Dudd King & Carrie Robinson; three brothers, Linzy King, Kenneth King and Rickey King; three uncles, James Garth, Percell Garth Jr., and Otis Lee Robinson; an aunt, Emma Garth Mason. 

Fond memories and thoughts will forever be cherished by her children; her daughter, Mallory Birgans; her two sons, Thomas R. Birgans and Tevin Ray; her five grandchildren’s who she truly adored, Taylor Sykes, Addisyn Hammonds, Saniya Birgans, Bryson Mason, and Autumn Ray.

Passionate memories will also be held in the hearts of her mother, Ruby Garth Diggs and her father, the Reverend William T. King (Vallie); her sister and friend, Shawn King-Lynch; two brothers, William King and Donovan King; three caring aunts, Cynthia Owens, Virginia Payne (Melvin) and Myra Nickson (Melvin); four caring uncles, Willie Garth (Willodean), George L. Garth, Minister Larry Garth and Troy Fuqua. 

Happy memories will continue to be treasured by one special niece, “her Punkin,” India Lynch and a special great nephew, “her Bubba,”Bear Hurth; special first cousins, Wanda Hope, Darryl Mason, Teresa Payne Battle, Marcus Garth, Clarissa Garth-Williams, Lavaris Garth, Shaneka Garth-Croom, Katrese Malone, Brandon Evans, Maurion Swoope, Aden Acosta, Tabitha Bailey, Keithie Swoopes, Christopher Swoopes, Shanorris Evans, Lamont Hall, LaBryant Hall, Debra Owens, Renae Wilkes, Nicole Nickson and Tiffany Nickson.

Special friends; Marcella Bowling-Jones, Tangela Orr, Dorothy Pride-Jones and Shaneka Matthews and numerous  nieces, nephews, cousins, family & friends, including the Smith, Gilchrist, Ricks, and Harris families.
