Obituary

Public viewing for Mr. William E. Brown, 90 of Decatur, Alabama will be from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Reynolds Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be noon Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church in Anderson, Indiana with the Reverend Tenorris Davis, pastor officiating, Inhumation will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. On July 29, 1932 in Anderson, Indiana a beautiful baby boy, William Edward Brown was born to Marian Brown. Thanks to God, Mr. Brown remained on this earth for 90 years, serving God and mankind. On April 18, 2023 at Decatur Morgan Hospital in Decatur, Alabama he peacefully entered his heavenly home. William attended school in the Anderson School System and graduated from Anderson High School. He wanted to be an electrician, so he enrolled in electrical training courses and became a member of an electrician apprentice program. He graduated from this program and became a Journeyman -Wireman at General Motors and remained there for 44 years until he retired in 1995. Mr. Brown was also a successful Entrepreneur of Brown’s Electrical Company in Anderson. He continued to do electrical work in the community and surrounding areas. His love for electrical work and the desire to help people, motivated him to help train others to be electricians. Many of his trainees became members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

Mr. Brown and his wife Lena Brown relocated to Decatur, Alabama. They became active citizens and participated in many community activities. William joined Calvary Assembly of God in Decatur while under the leadership of the Reverend George Sawyer, Senior Pastor. He was a dedicated member until his health began to decline, but he continued to support his church financially and through prayer. Those who knew Mr. Brown described him as being kind, giving, unselfish and always ready to help.

He was preceded in death by: his mother, Marian Brown Townsend, grandparents, two brothers, and one sister.

Mr. Brown leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife for 42 years, Lena Allen Brown; five children, William (Jan) Brown, Jr. of Tucson, Arizona, Vincient (Carlos) Brown of Anderson, Indiana, Tony (Margo) Brown of Dallas Texas, Kisha Sawyer of Indianapolis, Indiana, and David Brown of Chicago Illinois; two stepsons, Jeffery J. (Vivian) Cottrell of Anderson, Indiana and Jimmie (Palin) Cottrell of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri; three brothers; Willie (Betty) Townsend of Anderson, Indiana, Harold Townsend of Fishers, Indiana, and Richard (Leroyna) Townsend of Indianapolis, Indiana; four sisters; Julia Goodwin of Fishers Indiana, Robecca Townsend of Anderson Indiana, Hattie (Charles) Hobson of Noblesville, Indiana, Mary Townsend Gray of Anderson, Indiana; a host of beautiful grandchildren, nieces, nephews cousins, and friends.
