Willie Greg Hunter entered this world on January 4, 1973, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a quiet light born to Willie and Ella Mae Gilchrist Hunter. His journey on this earth came to a peaceful close on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at River City Center in Decatur, Alabama, where he slipped into eternal rest with grace. Greg’s life was woven with love, humility, and a gentle spirit that touched every heart he encountered. He moved through the world softly, yet with a presence that lingered—kind, steady, and full of quiet strength. Those who knew him remember a man whose warmth needed no words, whose tenderness lived in the small, thoughtful ways he cared for others. Willie was preceded in death by his grandparents; Natus D. and Annie B. Gilchrist; an uncle, Claude Barby, and five aunts; Lillie Jones, Dorothy Pride, Rhodell Hill, Flora Smith, and Annie Ruth Gilchrist. He leaves behind a circle of love that will forever hold his memory close: his devoted mother, Ella Mae Hunter of Decatur, AL; his brother, Corinthian Gilchrist of Courtland, AL; and his loving aunt, Gloria (Kenneth) Davis of Decatur, AL. He is also remembered by four uncles—Clarence (Helen) Gilchrist of Nashville, TN; Natus Gilchrist of Athens, AL; Freddie (Syrvillia) Gilchrist of Hillsboro, AL; and Joe S. Gilchrist of Decatur, AL— each carrying their own cherished memories of him. Greg’s legacy continues through his niece, Ciara Gilchrist of Houston, TX; his nephew, Corinthian Gilchrist Jr. of Town Creek, AL; and a host of cousins and relatives whose lives were brightened by his gentle presence.
