Mrs. Armstead was my first grade teacher; the next year she became my principal when they opened Jeter Street Elementary. She was one of the sweetest teachers I ever knew. I was blessed see her last at my 25th Darden High class reunion. My deepest condolences to her family.

She was my principal at Jeter Street and I remember her beautiful smile. I thank God for her being in my life and I cherish the memories.

To the family of my FAVORITE teacher in the whole wide world. I met her in Sept. 1955 when I enter her classroom not speaking a word of English. I loved me so Glayds Armstead. She babysit me two or three days a week after school. I played in her makeup and jewelry. She took me to Montgomery with her on weekends. I even remember those big great danes she had. I remember wanted freckles just like her....I had a few but not as many like her. When my children was ready for school, I took them to Jeter Street under her watchful eye. When I married and moved my husband would make sure I stopped at the little white house on the corner when we visited Opelika. About fifteen years ago when I stopped at the house she was never there....I lost track of her. So today my heart is very heavy with the knowledge that God called her home. You will forever be in my heart.

Mrs. Armstead was my principal when I attended Jeter Street Elementary School in Opelika, AL. She will be remembered by many. Rest In Peace.
